Kirkus Book Review

In one of this Australian humorist's warm, offbeat families, Alison's Grandad is the one who almost gets into trouble. He's teaching Alison to juggle; and though he's not as good a magician as he used to be, he does manage to pull the tablecloth from beneath Sunday dinner without a spill or a break--though Mom almost loses her favorite china dog in the process. Nobody scolds; appropriate changes are made in case Grandad is again seized with inspiration; and, in a comic subplot, the family dog gets Grandad's propitiatory box of chocolates. The poker-faced humor is illustrated in Graham's usual wide-eyed, deft, cartoonish style; the many things going on here are not as closely meshed as they might be, but charming nonetheless.
